Join the Media, Film, and Journalism Studies Department as we host the 2024 Wolzien Lecture featuring Peter Lauer, moderated by Chair Dr. Derigan Silver. 

Peter Lauer has been working for nearly 40 years, starting out directing commercials and many music videos for such acts as RUN D.M.C., Suicidal Tendencies, and, notably, the video “Push It” for Salt-N-Pepa. Peter has directed a broad spectrum of television comedy from Adult Swim and Comedy Central to Netflix and HBO and all major cable and broadcast networks, working extensively with Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, Mindy Kaling, Jim Gaffigan, Bryan Cranston and many others. He is known for series such as ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, CHUCK, PUSHING DAISIES, DEAD LIKE ME, SCRUBS, GILMORE GIRLS, STRANGERS WITH CANDY, YOUNGER, and currently the series UnCOUPLED and EMILY IN PARIS. Peter has written and directed pilots, movies, episodic television, and webisodes. He is currently consulting on various projects and is directing a feature film for Billy Porter’s Incognegro Productions. Peter is a Professor of the Practice in Theater, Film, and Television at the University of Arizona and regularly lectures at Loyola Marymount University. Peter teaches Directing Actors for the Screen and Script Analysis for Directors at UCLA Extension and conducts acting workshops for Studio 24 in Los Angeles and Sacramento.
