You are being invited to participate in a research study interested in examining the lived experiences of gender diverse birthing individuals’ perinatal healthcare experiences.

In fulfillment of inclusion criteria, you have self-identified as (a) a gender diverse individual (nonbinary, gender non-confirming, gender queer, trans, gender fluid or any other gender identity outside of “man/woman”); (b) a resident of the United States; (c) 18 to 50 years of age; (d) English speaking; (e) having Internet access and a device with video call capabilities to utilize the Zoom platform; and (f) electing to voluntarily consent to participate. The purpose of the present study is to describe the phenomenon of interest through rigorous qualitative inquiry involving an individual interview facilitated by the principal investigator, Orphea D. Wright, MA. 

Research objectives are in pursuit of exploring psychological dimensions of (a) exploring how gender identity impacts perinatal healthcare experiences for gender diverse participants; (b) exploring what supports well-being and empowerment during the perinatal period for gender diverse individuals; (c) how participants cope with stressors related to barriers to accessing affirming perinatal healthcare; (d) how participants are affected by perinatal healthcare experiences; and (e) how perinatal healthcare can change to better meet the needs of gender diverse patients. Please note, this study is not a replacement for individual therapy to address mental health concerns such as grief and loss, psychological trauma, anxiety, depression, self-injurious behavior, and or suicidal or homicidal ideation.
