Dockless Bikeshare Pilot Survey
Introduction
Bikesharing allows many people to share bikes across a network of users. Bcycle is a great example of a docked bikeshare system, where bikes may be checked out of a station, ridden, then returned to a station. The dockless bikeshare concept allows users to find, unlock, and ride bikes using an app on their mobile device, ride them for up to an hour, then park them anywhere you would normally park a bike (
see Denver City Code here). Payment occurs throught the app. This eliminates the cost and infrastructure associated with the stations, and allows access to more users across a broader area.
The University of Denver and the City and County of Denver has launched a pilot of dockless bikeshare. Through a rigorous interview process, we selected ofo as the provider. 200 of these yellow bikes with black baskets and logos have been placed on the DU campus for use. Prices start at $0.50/ride, $9.95 per month, or $69.95 per year. On campus, we have identified parking locations marked as white boxes on the sidewalk/pavement.
Working together, the University of Denver and the City and County of Denver have identified an area where this pilot can operate (Alameda to Hampden, Broadway to I-25). For the pilot,
only students, staff, and faculty with a @du.edu email may use the bikes. We encourage everyone to download the ofo app from either app store, to see how the program works, see where bikes are, and to provide feedback on bikes that are improperly parked.
More information on the program can be found here.
Thank you for your interest in providing feedback on the pilot.
