The CAHSS First-Generation Student program is recuiting mentors!
Through mentoring, as well as programming including resource fairs, study sessions, meet-ups, and community-building events, the aim of the CAHSS First-Generation Student Program is to uplift first-gen students in the College, building a community of support, belonging, and pride.
Faculty and staff mentoring remains at the heart of what makes our program successful. We consider the unique set of skills, knowledge, and experiences that our faculty and staff possess to be a rich asset. The program helps our students tap into that resource in a structured, welcoming, and supportive way. Faculty mentors are asked to offer students a trusted person who can answer questions, help connect them with resources, provide academic and career advice, and simply just be there.
If you are interested in becoming a First-Gen mentor, please complete this survey. Do note that
we are not able to offer stipends for mentoring work
during the AY 24-25. Nevertheless, we are hoping to relieve the mental load that this type of work can require by organizing social events twice each quarter to which all mentees and mentors will be invited.
