Workload Equity-- Department Equity Action Planning (DEAP) project

The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs is seeking applications from programs and departments for a 12-month pilot project that aims to 

(a) increase the number of routine work practices that department faculty could enact to ensure equity, 

(b) enhance conditions within the department known to positively enhance equity, and 

(c) improve the action readiness of department faculty to ensure equity in division of labor. 


This project supports the work of the Workload Equity Committee, building on the 2021-2022 report and guides departments through a research-based change process where they interrogate their own practices and policies around how workload is distributed, taken-up, made visible, and rewarded. 

Anyone can apply for their department or other academic unit in which labor is shared. Only one submission is allowed per department/unit, so team submissions are encouraged. For best consideration, apply by December 5. We expect that the application review process will take about a month and the person listed as the department contact may be contacted for additional information in early December. Selected departments will be formally announced and begin work in January 2023. The OTL director, VFPA, and office support staff will have access to the information provided in this survey for planning purposes. Information shared here will remain confidential.
 

Your DEAP 2023 cohort team is committing to the following

1 1.5 day retreat in the Denver metro area (June 13-15)
4 All-Cohort Workshops (4-6 hours total) 
2 working sessions (2-4 hours total) 
1 Capstone celebration ( 1 hour, January 2024) 
DEAP team meetings & consultations as appropriate 

Deliverables 
-Administer Department Workload Survey (January)
-Draft Dashboard Instrument (June)  
-Department Equity Action Plan (December)

Each team will have $5000 to spend to support the project (i.e. data analysis, staff support, professional development, or stipends for team member summer work.)
